XIENCE Secures its Dominance of Stent Market; PAD Treatment, Structural Heart Make Strong Showing
Among the big news items coming out of TCT 2009 held last week were the one-year results of the SPIRIT IV Trial, which showed Abbott's XIENCE V out-performed TAXUS Express (click here to read the complete story). Data from numerous noteworthy trials were presented, including two-year follow-up from FAME, which showed FFR is more accurate than angiography alone in determining whether a lesion needs to be stented; PLATO INVASIVE, a placebo-controlled trial of ticagrelor vs. clopidogrel in patients managed with PCI; PROSPECT, a multimodality intracoronary imaging study to identify vulnerable plaque; and SYMPLICITY I one-year results following sympathetic renal denervation in refractory hypertension patents. Highlights from these trials can be found below.
